I’ve had this mix in the bag for like 3 weeks and I keep forgetting to post it. I’ve decided to stop doing these until I can figure out how to make it a podcast and to help me focus on making a mix of original tunes which has been the goal for a bit.

Well. This is the second volume of me trying to break out of my DJing rut. This is going to be the first installment of what I hope will be a weekly mix mini mix that just gets some of the tracks sitting around my basement out onto the internet for all to enjoy. About 35 minutes worth of music for easy to digest little chunks. I think what I was going for here was deep sorta haunting music that resonates with you long after you listen to it.

1. King Britt – Music Of The Supreme [Poussez!]

This is just one of those perfect singles. Both sides are some of the best that house music has   to offer. This one time after djing for a marathon 4 1/2 hours (which is a lot these days for a club set) at the Capitol Club I stumbled over to Chop Suey and saw King Britt playing the grooviest house and causing all the hipster kids to dance like rejects from Hair. It was amazing and instantly I wanted to grow an afro and throw on some tie dye. That is the power of King Britt.

2. A Guy Called Gerald – Humanity (Ashely Beedle’s Love And Compassion) [Studio !K7]

This is one of my favorite house tracks of all time. I’m a huge fan of the original and this remix always seems to hit the spot for someone when I’m DJing. Everytime I play this someone comes up to me and tells me what a big fan of this track they are. To think I picked it up used for a dollar at Plan 9 in Richmond. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure I guess.

3. Lephtee – So Far Back (The Nova Dream Sequence) [Buzzin' Fly Records]

I know nothing about this track or this producer but I love it. It’s got this haunting little melody to it that is unforgetable. The original and the Phonique remix were used in tandem to finish off one of the Buzzin’ Fly comps and I had to pick it up after hearing it there. Hell, one of my friends bought it instanly after hearing it once so it must be doing something right. The Nova Dream Sequence remix, which after doing a little research turns out to be King Britt himself (thus making me want to grow that afro even more), takes it into even deeper grounds. Amazing.

4. Stefan Goldmann – Lunatic Fringe [Macro]

Weird and strangely haunting. How this track never took off I just don’t understand. This is the type of quirky bouncy music that swirls with strange ideas that confuse and then facinate. I havn’t had the chance to play this one out yet but I can’t wait to hear those vocals ooze in and out of those hoover sounds on a big system. If you want to hear it in a perfectly constructed set try Agoria’s At The Controls.

5. Underworld – Crocodile (Innervisions Orchestra Mix) [PIAS]

My favorite part of this song is where everything fades out for a second. The first time I played it I hadn’t listened to it all the way through before and when it happened everyone turned and looked at me like I had forgotten to mix in the next record. Kinda embarassing, until the bass kicks back in and has everyone hooked. It’s like Underworld decided to make a good version of Sting’s Desert Rose and then got two of the best house producers to sprinkle their magic on it.

6. Robag Wruhme – Robag’s Bobb 2005 Für F. [Mute]

There is no better producer that can tame this much crazyness with something that is still melodic and beautiful. I read somewhere that Robag Wruhme wrote the it for his Ex when they split as an attempt to win her back or some variation close to that. I think I read it in URB a few years ago. Explains the artwork of the cover. People seem to love this track and for good reason. I would love to sit down one day and figure out how the hell he makes the sounds he does in the studio.
